On Saturday, June 1, 2024, Team IZZA made waves at the Tropicana Gardens Mall during Malaysia’s first-ever Asia Sport Jiu-Jitsu Federation (ASJJF) tournament. With competitors from across Asia, this high-stakes event celebrated the talent, dedication, and spirit of BJJ across the region. Alhamdulillah, our team brought home 4 Golds, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals – an incredible achievement that now places us as one of Malaysia’s top-ranked teams!
Alhamdulillah – A Standout Day on the Mats
Our performance was nothing short of electrifying. We were honored to hear from black belts and coaches from various clubs, many of whom remarked, that our team "came out of nowhere," and praised Team IZZA for our grit and execution on the mats. It was humbling to see the respect from our fellow competitors, affirming that our training and perseverance are paying off. The ASJJF event, organized seamlessly by ASJJF was a perfect backdrop to make a memorable impression and compete against worthy opponents from Malaysia’s rapidly expanding BJJ community.
Heartfelt Thanks to Our Supporters and Coach Doty
Special thanks go to everyone who came out to cheer us on! The energy of our supporters was infectious, giving each competitor that extra push. We are also immensely grateful to our coach, Mohammed Doty, who flew in all the way from Qatar to train and prepare us. His expert guidance and belief in our abilities were key to our success, and we look forward to having him back with us soon, insha'Allah.
Climbing the Ranks: Top 7 Team in Malaysia
Thanks to this strong showing, Team IZZA is now ranked 7th in Malaysia out of 20 competing clubs. Even more exciting, we are just one gold medal away from breaking into the top three! This achievement is just the beginning. With each match, we’re honing our skills and pushing to make an even bigger mark in future competitions.
